The Southern Illinois University System and local veteran serving organizations are hosting the first Veteran’s Resource Connection Fair. Sponsored by the SIU System and its campuses (SIU Carbondale, SIU Edwardsville, School of Medicine), this day is intended to give veteran’s free access to the following services:
The SIU School of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Social Work and their community partners will provide:
- The SIU School of Medicine will provide primary care physician referrals
- The SIU School of Medicine will provide mental health screenings and referrals
- The SIUE School of Pharmacy will be conducting health assessment screenings (blood pressure measurement & diabetes risk assessment)
- Home test kits for colorectal cancer
- Free and low cost dental service referrals
The SIU School of Law and their community partners will be provide:
- Advice and information on VA disability benefits
- Advice and information on discharge upgrades
- Intakes and referrals for free legal services for other civil legal matters
SIUE and SIUC and Extended Campus will provide:
- Educational benefits counseling: Active, Reserve, Guard, Dependents and Spouses
- College entrance advisement for undergraduate, graduate and professional schools (application process and deadlines)
- What to expect as a non-traditional, veteran student
- Connecting with the right resources (counseling, tutoring, disability support and career center)
- Information on high growth professions in Healthcare, Education, IT and Justice
