A Message from Dr. Daniel F. Mahony
Welcome to the Southern Illinois University System!
Over the course of the last 150-plus years, the SIU campuses have grown from humble beginnings to be recognized as ever-expanding centers for learning, research, and community service. During that time, SIU Carbondale and SIU Edwardsville have developed into the core of a modern university system that provides learning opportunities to over 24,500 students.
Focused on a footprint that encompasses the southern-most 66 counties of the state, the economic, healthcare and academic resources of the SIU System are making a real difference in the lives of the over 2 million Illinoisans who call this area home. We are proud to share that the SIU System’s economic impact in FY23 was nearly $4 billion, and the system’s economic activity helped support 45,075 jobs in Illinois. Beyond these communities however, the SIU brand is known throughout the world because of the success of our students and our groundbreaking research.
