This policy applies to all Web pages of the SIU President's Office and SIU Board of Trustees.
It is the policy of Southern Illinois University to respect the privacy of all Website visitors to the extent permitted by law. The Web pages of the President's Office and Board of Trustees do not collect personal information about visitors.
However, the SIU System uses a tool called “Google Analytics” to collect information. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site. The sole purpose of the information SIU System gets from Google Analytics is to improve the site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to each unique visitor on the date they visit, rather than a name or other identifying information. The SIU System does not combine the information collected through Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on the Web browser to identify a unique user the next time he or she visits this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about site visits is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms and Use and the Google Privacy Policy. Google Analytics can be prevented from recognizing all return visits to any Website by disabling cookies on the browser.
Personal information that the users provide by e-mail or through other online means, such as a response to an inquiry or a request for information, is used only for purposes necessary to serve the inquiry or request. This may involve redirecting the inquiry or comment to another person or department, or through a third-party system administered by the System to help streamline communication/management. Personal information will not be shared with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
SIU will only release personal information, when legally required, to help law enforcement investigations, legal proceedings, or internal investigations of University rule and regulation violations.
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, the University has put into place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information collected online.
