Biography of Stephanie Barton
Stephanie Barton serves as Senior Associate General Counsel at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Stephanie’s practice areas center on Labor and Employment matters including discipline, contract negotiations, Unfair Labor Practice (ULPs), labor arbitrations, and administrative agency litigation, among others. Stephanie also serves as the Immigration advisor and the Freedom of Information Officer for the School of Medicine.
Prior to serving in her capacity with Southern Illinois University, Stephanie served as the General Counsel at The Hope School, a school and residential program for severely disabled children in Springfield and Chicago with Autism clinics in several locations in Illinois and Missouri. Stephanie was previously employed with the City of Springfield. Stephanie also served as Illinois Central Management Services Deputy General Counsel responsible for the supervision of the labor attorneys across the state agencies. Prior to working at CMS Labor Relations, Stephanie served as the Chief of Labor Relations for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Stephanie also served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Labor and Employment bureau representing State agencies in labor and employment administrative, state and federal court proceedings.
Stephanie graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in pre-law and graduated cum laude from Northern Illinois University School of Law. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, National Association of College and University Attorneys, and Illinois Public Employer Labor Relations Association.
