Technology Transfer Internship Opportunity
SIU’s Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) seeks motivated graduate students seeking hands-on experience in the field of intellectual property, research commercialization, and/or technology transfer. Interns will gain valuable knowledge and skills applicable in technology transfer, patent law, startup development, and other careers. Activities may include technology evaluation, market research, legal document review and drafting, patent application drafting, technology marketing, and inclusion in licensing negotiations.
The successful applicant must sign a confidentiality agreement and should expect to devote 5-15 hours per week to the position. Telecommuting may be required based on the applicant’s location and the nature of assigned projects. Internship positions are unpaid; start and end dates are flexible.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled or plan to enroll in graduate (including professional) courses on Southern Illinois University’s Edwardsville, Carbondale, or Springfield School of Medicine campus;
- Have a strong background (as evidenced by an undergraduate degree, for instance) in a science, technical, or business/marketing field; and
- Submit a resume, cover letter or personal statement, and at least one reference letter from an SIU faculty member via email to techtransfer@siumed.edu with the subject line “OTT Internship Application.”
Internships are limited and will be filled on a competitive basis; factors such as strength of resume, academic performance, topical area of expertise, and order of receipt may be considered when selecting applicants to interview and, ultimately, mentor.
