Intellectual Property and Visiting Scholar Policies
The Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University approved the use of a System-wide Intellectual Property Policy on July 14, 2016, which may be found here. All inventions, creations and discoveries that were not previously disclosed to the Office of Technology Transfer before July 14, 2016 will be subject to the provisions found within this System-wide Intellectual Property Policy unless you are subject to the collective bargaining terms of the Carbondale Faculty Association. Addendum C of the Carbondale Faculty bargaining agreement outlines the intellectual property rights and obligations for those Carbondale faculty members. The FY 2017 - 2018 SIUC Faculty Association collective bargaining agreement may be found here. The FY 2018-2022 SIUE Faculty Association collective bargaining agreement may be found here. These documents govern the responsibilities, liabilities, and distribution of income from intellectual property for both SIU and creators/inventors that work with SIU.
All inventions, creations and discoveries that were submitted to the Office of Technology Transfer before July 14, 2016 will be subject to the respective governing intellectual property policies at the time of their disclosures. Those intellectual property policies may be made available upon request to the Office of Technology Transfer. A link to the Office of Technology Transfer internal fee schedule may be found here. Application of the internal fee schedule is optional and may be leveraged by the Office of Technology Transfer at its discretion.
Visiting Scholars
Persons engaging in research, creative activity, or other scholarly activities for more than 30 days at facilities owned or leased by SIU may qualify as Visiting Scholars. Visiting Scholars may be required by their host institution to enter into a Visiting Scholar Intellectual Property Agreement with SIU. This agreement details the rights and obligations of Visiting Scholars in regard to potentially commercializable intellectual property that they may develop or co-develop at SIU.
Please submit any questions about the intellectual property and visiting scholar policies to the Office of Technology Transfer at: techtransfer@siumed.edu.
